Ryan C. McDevitt, PhD, is a Professor of Economics at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business. He previously taught competitive strategy at The University of Chicago Booth School of Business, Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, and Simon Business School. For more than 15 years, Professor McDevitt has researched, taught, and consulted on topics in applied microeconomics, presently working as a Senior Consultant to Charles River Associates. He consults on matters relating to health care competition and quality. His expertise has been applied to many health care sectors, including dialysis, long-term care hospitals, and anesthesiology.
Professor McDevitt teaches courses in microeconomics, strategy, and econometrics and has been honored with teaching awards for his teaching in both the MBA and master’s programs at Fuqua and Simon. Professor McDevitt has published various articles in academic journals such as the American Economic Review, Journal of Political Economy, Quarterly Journal of Economics, and Review of Economic Studies and won the Association of Competition Economics Best Paper Award. He currently serves as editor of the Journal of Industrial Economics and as a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research.
