John E. Parsons is the Executive Director of the Center for Energy and Environmental Policy Research at MIT and a Senior Lecturer at MIT’s Sloan School of Management. He is an expert in corporate finance, valuation, and risk management.
Dr. Parsons has extensive experience with specialized securities and financial contracts, including derivative instruments and hedging programs. His research has often focused on the energy industry, including contracts for natural gas supply and cogenerated electricity, partnership agreements for oil exploration, and long-term oil-linked bonds. Dr. Parsons has extensive experience in the valuation and pricing of a wide array of businesses, assets, and securities, including futures and options and other complicated derivative securities, as well as the evaluation of the profitability and risk of commodity trading operations. He has conducted research and consulted on many aspects of financing major energy investments.
