Ian Cass has over a decade of experience involving complex antitrust and competition matters in Canada and the United States.
He specializes in leading support teams for clients and testifying experts. His particular focus is on merger analysis of competitive effects and efficiencies, as well as the economic assessment of liability issues in antitrust litigation involving allegations of monopolization and abuse of dominance. He has supported experts and directed case teams in merger matters before the Canadian Competition Bureau, merger litigation before the Competition Tribunal, and antitrust litigation before the courts in the United States. He has also co-authored reports and supported experts in regulatory matters before the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission.
He is an active contributor to the Canadian Bar Association’s Competition Law and Foreign Investment Review Section, including as a speaker at events, and a past Chair of its Economics and Law Committee. He is recognized by Who’s Who Legal as a leading competition economist in various sub-categories in Canada and globally.
Mr. Cass began his career in merger enforcement at the Competition Bureau, where he led teams conducting complex merger reviews under the Competition Act. He was also involved in the Bureau’s policy work, authoring multiple agency submissions to the OECD Competition Committee.
