The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted global inequities in access to health innovation, and in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) these inequities are associated with several complex challenges, including limited and under-resourced healthcare systems, lack of an adequately skilled workforce to support knowledge-sharing, and a lack of infrastructure capacity to support local manufacturing and production.
In this CRA Insights, Lev Gerlovin, Rajini Jayasuriya, and Rachel Ziff analyze two potential solutions that have emerged to support healthcare independence in LMICs: World Health Organization (WHO) Hubs and private sector collaboration with LMICs. These innovations provide potential models for future partnerships between private entities and LMICs to improve patient access and global health equity.
