Managing regulatory and political uncertainty for hydrogen projects under Trump 2.0

An article published by Hydrogen Insight, calls into question the future of US green hydrogen due to Trump’s second presidential term.

The publication of the US government’s final guidance for the 45V clean hydrogen production tax credit in early January, was not the long-awaited confirmation to secure financing for projects that green H2 producers needed. The new administrations ambivalence towards climate-related subsidies has some unsure of the future for clean hydrogen and the 45V tax credits.

CRA Energy expert Drake Hernandez was called on to respond to this question and has noted that regardless of the uncertainty from Trump’s second term, the publication of the 45V guidance is still likely to have a positive impact on green hydrogen projects in the US. Hernandez noted that while there is no guarantee that the final 45V guidance will remain untouched, the regulatory risk is now lower than it was prior to the formal guidance being released.
