We are pleased to announce that Dr. Renée Duplantis, Mr. Ian Cass, and Dr. Dimitri Dimitropoulos have joined CRA’s Competition Practice in Toronto.
Dr. Duplantis has 20 years of experience as an expert addressing complex competition matters in Canada, the United States, and Europe. She has testified before the Canadian Competition Tribunal and the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission and has authored reports and presented findings to competition agencies globally, including Canada’s Competition Bureau, the US Federal Trade Commission, and the European Commission Directorate-General for Competition.
The empirical analysis of competition issues, including quantifying competitive effects of mergers, has been a focus of Dr. Duplantis’ work. She also has substantial experience addressing competitive effects in matters involving allegations of abuse of dominance, exclusionary conduct, monopolization, collusion, and price-fixing. Prior to her consulting work, Dr. Duplantis was chief economist at Canada’s Competition Bureau. Please see our recent press announcement.
Mr. Cass has considerable experience leading project teams for clients and testifying experts in the US and Canada. Like Dr. Duplantis, he has experience addressing competitive effects and efficiencies in merger analyses across a large and diverse range of industries. Outside mergers, Mr. Cass has led project teams supporting economic experts addressing liability issues in antitrust litigation related to monopolization and abuse of dominance. He has directed case teams in merger investigations before Canada’s Competition Bureau, merger litigation before Canada’s Competition Tribunal, and antitrust litigation before courts in the US. He has co-authored reports and supported experts in regulatory matters before the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission. Prior to his consulting work, Mr. Cass was a senior competition law officer in the Mergers Branch of Canada’s Competition Bureau.
Dr. Dimitropoulos conducts research and analysis in the economics of competition and antitrust, intellectual property, and commercial damages. He has specialized expertise applying economic theory and econometric methods to examine complex economic issues relating to competition and innovation. Dr. Dimitropoulos has experience valuing patents, evaluating harm, and assessing damages in patent infringement cases, and addressing the reasonableness of royalties in patent infringement cases. His competition and IP case experience covers a broad range of industries, including agriculture, airlines, automotive, broadcasting, consumer products, healthcare, hospitality, industrial products, oil and gas, pharmaceuticals, retailing, technology, and telecommunications.
