Oliver Latham is a guest speaker during the session titled “Multi-actor ecosystems and orchestrator power: Big Tech and how to respond” during the course.
This session will focus on the relationship between an orchestrator and the complementors it works with. We will draw on the well publicized battle between Apple and Epic games, which raised significant controversy.. We will consider what drives the economics and strategic dynamics of this relationship, and what are the key features that emerge from the perspective of the key actors (focusing on complementors like Epic) and for society and those tasked with supporting competition. We then will hear from one of the top practitioners, Charles River Associates’ VP Oli Latham, who works on antitrust cases, who will help us with understanding how competition lawyers and authorities approach these issues, what the pushback is, and the current state of affairs of the legal debate about power and fairness in such a digital context.
