Amparo Nieto presents the session titled “Innovative Data Center Tariffs: Conditions for Ensuring Risk-Free and Equitable Outcomes”
This session will explore innovative strategies for designing utility rates that address the unique load characteristics and capacity needs of data centers, and the subsequent challenges in ensuring equitable cost recovery and appropriate risk sharing between utility and customers. Utilities are aiming to find a pricing and contractual scheme that strikes a balance between mitigating the near- and long-term risks of investments and costs incurred on behalf of data center projects, and accommodating growth in a way that may ultimately provide a net benefit to existing customers. Ms. Nieto will go over a conceptual discussion as to the potential differences in effectively tackling these issues in a market vs. a traditional vertically-integrated regulatory environment and review the merits of some of the emerging proposals.
