As European policymakers are looking to develop a sovereign cloud industry, competition authorities are taking initiatives in the cloud sector (French Competition Authority’s market study on competition in the cloud sector, 29 June 2023, CMA’s investigation, OFCOM’s suggestion to the CMA to investigate the cloud sector, Bundeskartellamt’s report on cloud). The cloud will serve as the IT architecture for AI, positioning itself upstream in the value chain.
