Jeffrey Prisbrey

With more than 25 years of experience in academic, government, and consulting roles, Dr. Jeffrey Prisbrey has provided economic analysis for clients on a wide range of competition and regulatory issues, and in a wide variety of industries.

He has analyzed issues related to defining relevant product and geographic markets, assessing the likelihood of unilateral or coordinated effects from proposed transactions, analyzing the potential for competitive foreclosure or other vertical concerns, and quantifying transactional efficiencies and synergies.  He has provided written and live expert testimony and filings on competition and regulatory matters before US and foreign competition authorities.

He has worked on competition matters in numerous industries and sectors including: Advertising (advertising agencies, in-store advertising, on-line advertising); Agriculture (cotton seeds, corn processing, soybean processing, cattle processing, pesticides); Communications (cable television, radio stations, wireline telephone, wireless telephone, internet naming conventions, pagers); Finance (debit cards, specialized financing, payment services); Industrial/manufacturing (power generation, aircraft engines, steel mills, steel cable, chemical additives, epoxy, plastic packaging, window film, brewing, paper making, paper products, cement, temporary buildings, satellites, rocket engines, packaging and shipping materials, catalog/magazine/book printing); Insurance (title insurance); Medical (laboratory testing, medical devices, prosthetics, pharmaceuticals, eye glasses, medical services); Mining (coal, diamonds, mining equipment); Publishing/entertainment (e-books, magazines, recorded music (incl. licensing), programming guides, movie theaters, concert promotion and ticket services, television networks, radio programming, audience ratings); Internet services (social networks, educational software, real estate, fantasy sports, wedding services, meeting planning, retirement housing, genealogy); Services (residential and commercial waste disposal, waste incinerators); Retail (pharmacies, farm supply); Sports (hockey, sports statistics); Technology (computer hardware, PC boards, semiconductors, computer memory, set-top boxes, speech recognition software, electronic maps); and Transportation (rental cars, rail cars, airlines).

 

Dr. Prisbrey has published in the American Economic Review, The Journal of Public Economics, and elsewhere; he has taught courses in Microeconomics, Industrial Organization, Public Economics, Experimental Economics, and Bargaining Theory.  He is currently an editor of the ABA’s Antitrust magazine.  Prior to joining CRA, he was a vice president with Competition Policy Associates. Before that, he held positions at the US Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division, the US Federal Communications Commission, the University of Virginia, and the Universitat Pompeu Fabra.
