Dr. Edwards is an economist with extensive experience advising in competition and regulatory proceedings.

Dr. Edwards has provided economic advice in the context of merger proposals and reviews, allegations of unilateral and coordinated anti-competitive behavior, damages claims, market investigations, and sector regulation. His clients have included many vertically integrated telephone and broadcasting entities, from BT, eircom, KPN, Telenor, and MTN (South Africa) to Sky, Virgin, MTG/Viasat, Sport TV in Portugal, Digita in Finland, and MultiChoice in Africa. In addition to telecoms and broadcasting, Dr. Edwards’ has advised on competition matters across a wide range of sectors, including finance, banking, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, retail, and transport.

Dr. Edwards has particular expertise advising in relation to price-based abuse of dominance allegations. He assisted BT in its successful defense of Ofcom’s Wholesale Calls investigation and has advised on numerous other matters concerning rebate schemes, price discrimination, predatory pricing, excessive pricing, and margin squeeze.

Prior to joining CRA, Dr. Edwards worked as an economist for Australia’s competition and utilities regulator (the ACCC) and as a competition lawyer, before earning a Masters in Economics and a PhD from the University of California, Berkeley. He has published numerous papers and presented at many forums on competition matters, including refusals to deal, exclusive distribution systems, rebates, price discrimination, margin squeeze, predatory pricing and bundling, and has been cited with approval by the Federal and High Courts of Australia.
