New Vice Presidents Expand Offerings in Antitrust & Competition Economics and Energy & Environment; Company Also Announces Appointments to Corporate Roles

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sep. 10, 2009-- Charles River Associates (NASDAQ: CRAI), a worldwide leader in providing management, economic, and financial consulting services, today announced the expansion of its capabilities in Antitrust & Competition Economics and Energy & Environment with the addition of two new vice presidents—Dr. Doug Zona and Todd Allmendinger. The Company also announced the hiring of Mark Winston, a former law firm partner and federal prosecutor, to a newly created vice president position that will encompass business development efforts with law firms and in-house counsel as well as corporate investigations and compliance work. In addition, the Company announced the appointment of John McCabe as a new corporate controller.

Antitrust & Competition Economics

Dr. Douglas Zona,Vice President, is an antitrust expert specializing in the competitive effects of mergers and acquisitions, bid-rigging, price fixing, regulation, and regulatory reform. Dr. Zona supports litigation and strategic advisory matters by applying statistical and econometric methods, and he has extensive experience providing expert reports and testimony in antitrust and competition policy disputes. A thought leader in the antitrust arena, Dr. Zona has published numerous academic articles, papers, and reports on a broad array of issues. Before joining CRA, he was a director with LECG. Previously, he was a vice president with Cornerstone Research, Inc. and a vice president with National Economic Research Associates. Dr. Zona is also former adjunct professor of economics at the New York University Graduate School of Arts and Science. He holds PhD and MA degrees in Economics from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, and a BA degree in Economics from the University of New Hampshire. Dr. Zona is based in CRA’s Oakland office.

Energy & Environment

Todd Allmendinger,Vice President, has a strong international consulting background in developing and managing consulting projects in clean and renewable energy in Europe, North America, South America, and Asia. He advises clients on assessing markets, developing strategic options, and implementing strategies. Before joining Charles River Associates, Mr. Allmendinger co-founded Emerging Energy Research (EER), a market research firm that tracks emerging technologies in global energy markets. He developed EER's consulting services which led to the creation of a separate business unit, Emerging Energy Consulting. He also served as director of knowledge management at DiamondCluster, managed strategic consulting assignments at Braun Consulting, and was director of research at Pyramid Research. Mr. Allmendinger is a former naval flight officer and holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Vermont; he has a master’s degree in international management from Thunderbird School of International Management and is fluent in Spanish. He is based in CRA’s Boston office.

Corporate Roles

Mark Winston,Vice President, brings substantial business development experience in the consulting industry and has an extensive legal background in investigative, compliance, and environmental work. He is a former federal prosecutor who spent 14 years with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in New Jersey investigating and prosecuting major financial fraud and other white-collar crimes. Prior to joining CRA, Mr. Winston was a managing director at other consulting firms and a litigation partner at Baker & McKenzie. He is a vice-chair of the International Criminal Law Committee of the American Bar Association. Mr. Winston holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago and a J.D. degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Law. He is based in CRA’s New York City office.

John McCabe, Vice President and Corporate Controller, is a seasoned finance and corporate accounting professional. His background spans corporate financial administration in such areas as accounting, audit, tax, and reporting. Prior to joining CRA, Mr. McCabe was a business unit controller at Biogen IDEC. He has also held financial management and controller positions in the high technology industry. He began his career at Arthur Andersen. Mr. McCabe holds an MBA degree from the University of Massachusetts and BS degrees from Babson College. He is based in CRA’s Boston office.
